American disability rights advocate, director of movies, and former teacher Tim Shriver has served as Special Olympics' chairman since 1996. Being the third child of Sargent Shriver, who created the Peace Corps, and Eunice Kennedy Shriver, who founded the Special Olympics, he is a member of the Kennedy family.
Timothy Shriver was born in Boston, Massachusetts, to Eunice Kennedy Shriver, the creator of Special Olympics, and Sargent Shriver, a former American ambassador to France and vice presidential candidate for the Democratic Party in 1972. Along with his siblings Bobby Shriver, Maria Shriver, Mark Shriver, and Anthony Shriver, he was brought up as a Catholic.
