Tim Berners-Lee is a British computer scientist widely recognized as the inventor of the World Wide Web. In 1989, while working at CERN, he proposed a system to share information over the internet using hypertext, leading to the development of HTTP, HTML, and the first web browser and server by 1990.
He founded the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) in 1994 to standardize web technologies and ensure their accessibility. A graduate of Oxford University, Berners-Lee has received numerous honors, earning recognition as one of TIME's 100 Most Important People of the 20th Century. He is a vocal advocate for net neutrality, data privacy, and open access.
