Tierney Cahill, a mother of three and a sixth-grade teacher at Sarah Winnemucca Elementary School in Reno, Nevada, did not anticipate becoming political. But after giving her kids a brief civics lecture on how elections and the government operate, her expectations were altered.

After she informed her pupils that any American may run for office, they objected, saying they didn't think regular citizens could be a genuine contenders. They pushed her to demonstrate that regular people can run for office, so she committed to doing so in order to motivate her kids. She is now campaigning for the District 2 Congressional seat.
