Tia Kansara Biography

Tia is a Ph.D. researcher in business and a sustainability campaigner right now. She co-founded and serves as director of Kansara Hackney Ltd. alongside Dr. Rod Hackney (Past President: the Royal Institute of British Architects). For the next generation of private and business clients, KH is a leading firm of experts in sustainable design and execution. Tia has given presentations at McGill University's World Health Platform, the distinguished Mr. Jai Bhalla Indian School of Structure and Planning, and the Musashi Institute of Technology alongside Mr. Kazuo Iwamura, Vice President of the Japanese Institute of Architects. She has organized her own workshops for the UIA (Internationale Union des Architects) at Biennales in Cuba and Costa Rica as well as the Archibhat in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire, which was supported by the Mayor of Cocody. She has presented her research on the future of cities before the European Parliament and the Royal Geographic Society ARUP. She has provided guidance to the Mayor of Amman regarding the Amman Institute, to United Nations Habitat in Hue, Vietnam, with the Building and Social Housing Foundation, and most recently to SAMBA (Saudi American Bank), the largest bank in Saudi Arabia, regarding the creation of a LEED Platinum-rated corporate headquarters in Riyadh. She has since provided green building advice in Jordan and Qatar and has been educated in and evaluated for the Estidama Pearl Rating System. She started her doctoral program in sustainable cities in 2010 at University College London's Bartlett School of Architecture. She has collaborated on research into the creation of sustainable cities with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the Masdar Institute of Science and Technology, and the multinational architectural company Fosters & Partners. She is now working with 22 members of the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Group, the Urban Planning Council, the Executive Affairs Authority, and others to develop the first energy baseline and thorough post-occupancy review in the United Arab Emirates. She was asked to provide sustainable development advice to the BioTrade Initiative of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development. She will serve as the UN's youngest advisor on sustainable problems for three years. She was asked to advise the Lebanese parliament in 2011. She will offer guidance to the Royal family of Bhutan through the Club of Rome and TEDx. She is a skilled linguist in Gujarati, Japanese, Hindi, Urdu, Sanskrit, French, and Arabic.
