American hip hop trio Three 6 Mafia is based in Memphis, Tennessee, and is signed to Columbia Records. In 1991, DJ Paul Lord Infamous and Juicy J founded the group, which was first known as Triple 6 Mafia.
Prior to being known as Triple 6 Mafia, the group was known as Backyard Posse, and it frequently collaborated with members of the Prophet Posse and the Gimisum Family. In 1994, Koopsta Knicca joined the crew.
