Calabro received his degree from New York City's Fordham University. Calabro started out as an actor in New York's theatre, playing a variety of roles. In A Midsummer Night's Dream by William Shakespeare, he played Oberon in his debut performance. Calabro joined the Circle Repertory Company and the Actors Studio in 1990. Denzel Washington, a fellow actor, is also mentioned.
The character of Dr. Michael Mancini on Melrose Place was Calabro's most well-known performance. He was the only cast member to remain on the program from its inception in 1992 until its conclusion in 1999. He was the series's episode director as well.
