Since the conclusion of the Cold War, Thomas P.M. Barnett has worked in US national security circles, initially with the eminent think tank for the Department of the Navy, the Center for Naval Analyses. From there, he relocated to the Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island, where he worked as a senior researcher and lecturer.
There, he was Vice Admiral Arthur Cebrowksi's top assistant and the inventor of network-centric warfare. After 9/11, Barnett worked as the Assistant for Strategic Futures in Cebrowski's Office of Force Transformation at the Department of Defense.
