born in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire, England, on October 7, 1968 At the age of seven, Thomas Edward Yorke, better known by his stage name Thom Yorke, began playing the guitar. At the age of ten, he started his first band.
Yorke, who was born with a birth defect in his left eye, had several operations as a young child and was frequently bullied by his friends. At the Abingdon School for Boys, Yorke formed the band On a Friday with guitarist Ed O'Brien and bassist Colin Greenwood. The band's principal vocalist and lyricist was Yorke.
