The xx is an atmospheric English indie pop band that was created in London when the band members were still in high school using the skills of Romy Madley Croft, Oliver Sim, Baria Qureshi, and Jamie Smith. The group's captivating and hip inspirations range from R&B (Aaliyah and Rihanna) to traditional alternative rock (the Cure and the Pixies).
The group's distinctive style of melancholy, soulful indie rock, built on the vocal harmonies of Croft and Sim, initially caught the attention of the general public in early 2009 with the single Crystalised, which generated a lot of talk among both reviewers and fans.
