Makkonen, Abel Tesfaye is a Canadian singer-songwriter and record producer better known by his stage name, The Weeknd (pronounced the weekend). Tesfaye published a number of songs under the alias The Weeknd on YouTube in late 2010. In 2011, he released three nine-track mixtapes, including the well-received House of Balloons Thursday and Echoes of Silence.
He released the remastered mixtapes and three new songs as part of the compilation album Trilogy in 2012. Both his own label, XO, and Republic Records published it. His first studio album, Kiss Land, was released in 2013 and featured the hits Live For and Kiss Land.
