The Ting Tings Biography

The Ting Tings are an English indie pop duo consisting of Katie White and Jules De Martino on piano, lead guitar, bass guitar, and drums (vocals guitar bass drums bass guitar, and cowbells). They started in December 2007 and are situated in Salford, England's Islington Mill Artist Studios. The band released its limited-edition first single "Fruit Machine" the next year after being signed to the independent record label Switchflicker Records in 2006. Following a performance at the Glastonbury Festival in 2007, Columbia Records signed The Ting Tings. We Started Nothing, the debut album by The Ting Tings, was released in May 2008. The British Phonographic Industry awarded the album a platinum certification when it debuted at the top of the UK Albums Chart (BPI). It debuted at number eight on the Independent Albums chart and number 78 on the Billboard 200 Albums chart. The third song from the group, "That's Not My Name," peaked at number one in the United Kingdom and made it to the Top 40 of the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 Singles list. The Recording Industry Association of America awarded the song "Shut Up and Let Me Go" gold certification, helping it to reach the top of the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart (RIAA).
