American heavy metal band The Sword is from Austin, Texas. The band, which was founded in 2003, is now made up of drummer Santiago Jimmy Vela III, guitarist Kyle Shutt, bassist Bryan Richie, and vocalist John D. Cronise.
The band, which was initially signed to Kemado Records, published its first album Age of Winters in 2006; the majority of the songs on it were written by Cronise before the band was ever formed. Two years after the album's release, Gods of the Earth, the group made its debut on the US Billboard 200 list.
