The Polyphonic Spree is a Dallas, Texas-based choral symphonic pop-rock band founded in 2000 by lead singer Tim DeLaughter. With a choir, flute, trumpet, trombone, violin, viola, cello, percussion, piano, guitars, bass, drums, electronic keyboards, and EWI, the band's sound is rich in vocal and musical richness. Former member of the band, St. Vincent.
Tripping Daisy, DeLaughter's former band, disbanded in 1999 after guitarist Wes Berggren died of a heroin overdose. Part of bringing The Polyphonic Spree to life was a reaction to his passing. In the year 2000, DeLaughter teamed together with twelve other musicians to create a sound that mirrored the music he grew up listening to.
