The Baseball Boys, consisting of bassist/singer Tony Lewis, guitarist/keyboardist John Spinks, and drummer Alan Jackman, played around London and recorded some early demos, catching Columbia/CBS Records' interest. Soon after, they were signed and began production on their debut album, Play Deep, which was released in 1985.
The album was a tremendous hit, selling triple platinum and reaching number nine on the album charts, as well as spawning their biggest hit, Your Love, a Top Ten hit. They went on a worldwide tour to promote the record, opening for Journey and Starship. In 1986, they began recording their second album, Bangin', which was released in 1987.
