The Kooks Biography

The Kooks are an English indie music band founded in Brighton in 2004. The Kooks' current lineup is bassist Dan Logan, who took Max Rafferty's position in 2008, drummer Paul Garred, lead guitarist and backing vocalist Hugh Harris, and guitarist Luke Pritchard. The Kooks had two albums that reached the Top 5, and several songs that got into the Top 40. While attending the Brighton Institute of Modern Music, the Kooks became friends. Former student Luke Pritchard was associated with vocalist Katie Melua while attending The Brits Performing Arts and Technology School in Croydon. Before enlisting the help of Hugh Harris and Paul Garred, Luke Pritchard and Max Rafferty worked together on a collegiate project. The song "Kooks" from David Bowie's 1971 album Hunky Dory inspired the band's choice of name. The Strokes, Bob Dylan, and The Police were all musicians that The Kooks loved, and they began to incorporate these influences into their brand of peppy indie rock.
