About The Killers
The Killers Biography
Las Vegas' The Killers have never struggled to find inspiration, which is a darn good thing considering their most recent album, Day & Age, their third studio album, is filled with some of their best songs to date. Flowers explains, "I remember when we were creating 'When You Were Young,' or in this instance, 'Spaceman. They may not have occurred if we had said, "Let's go to the park," at that same moment. It isn't very comforting. I nearly don't want to stop because I don't want to lose out on this great music. You need to take advantage of the fact that they are available to you. Together with bassist Mark Stoermer, guitarist Dave Keuning, and drummer Ronnie Vannucci, Flowers helped shape the album into ten tracks, each of which narrates a development in the sound of the Las Vegas band and works best as a whole. According to Stoermer, we're always challenging ourselves, and this music is diverse, ranging from anthemic rock to dance tracks. Flowers continues, "We feel like this is a continuation of Sam's Town, just as we felt like Sam's Town was a continuation of Hot Fuss." Day and Age, though, sound like us while being very distinct from them. It resembles viewing Sam's Town from Mars in certain ways. The synth-heavy, four-minute-long epic rock song Human, on which Flowers sings: "My sign is vital/My hands are cold/, And I'm on knees asking for the answer/Are we human or are we dancer," is the band's hallmark, as will be obvious to anyone who is familiar with their previous work. He claims that Hunter S. Thompson's critical remark about how America produced a generation of dancers inspired the song's lyrics. But record producer Stuart Price (also known as Jacques LuCont), most known for his work with Madonna and Missy Elliot and who previously remixed Mr. Brightside, also contributed to the song. Stoermer recalls, "He was the cherry on top."
