The Fray gained mainstream success with their 2005 debut How to Save a Life by positioning their sound midway between the arena-friendly style of U2 and the sophisticated pop/rock of artists like Maroon 5 and Counting Crows.
When old classmates Joe King (guitar vocals) and Isaac Slade (vocals, piano) suddenly ran into each other at a nearby music store, the Denver-based band was born. Following a series of two-person jam sessions, the duo added guitarist David Welsh and drummer Ben Wysocki, both former members of Slade.
