The Decemberists Biography

The Decemberists, led by Montana native Colin Meloy, produce dramatic, hyper-educated pop songs that heavily influence mid-'80s school rock greatness like the Waterboys and R.E.M. and late '60s British social bands like Fairport Convention and Pentangle. The band's core lineup comprised multi-instrumentalist Chris Funk, bassist Nate Query, pianist Jenny Conlee, and drummer Ezra Holbrook. Next, the Decemberists released yet another superb collection of vivid, unconventional flies with serene sensibilities after welcoming organist and keyboardist Rachel Blumberg to the group in 2003, further solidifying their growing renown. Following a year, a five-section epic E.P. called The Tain—named after an Irish sonnet from the ninth century—appeared, then in 2005, the full-length Picaresque.
