Lionel Richie played consoles, saxophone, and vocals; Thomas McClary played guitar; William King played trumpet; Andre Callahan played drums; Michael Gilbert played bass; and Milan Williams played consoles. According to legend, King threw a word reference that was obvious from all angles, and when it fell, it highlighted an unusual word on the page it opened to.

The birth of the Commodores. The Montgomery, Alabama, group began acting while they continued their exams, and their excitement quickly rose. Meeting Benjamin Ashburn, a seasoned advertising executive who signed on as its director, was a turning point in the group's career.
