The Cactus Blossoms sound eerily like a family-friendly act that recently left the stage of the Louisiana Hayride or the Grand Ol' Opry during the 1940s or 1950s, and there's a good reason for that. Guitarists and artists Page Burkum and Jack Torrey are siblings (Jack adopted a stage name when he first started as a vocalist/musician at 19). Their voices blend in a way that suggests Minneapolis, Minnesota, where I was raised Burkum, and Torrey grew up listening to pop radio and excellent Beatles albums. Still, they also had a mutual love of traditional country and popular music. In 2010, they began performing together under the name the Cactus Blossoms. The Cactus Blossoms released a self-titled and self-released presentation collection in 2011. They soon after managed a residence at St. Paul's Turf Club, playing a combination of the old-school country and people's works of art and firsts produced in the same vein. The standing gig increased the Cactus Blossoms' audience in the Twin Cities, and highlights from their live performances were included in the live album Live at the Turf Club (2013).
