The 1975 are an English pop-rock band that formed in Wilmslow, Cheshire, in 2002. Matthew Healy, lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist, Adam Hann, bassist Ross MacDonald, and drummer George Daniel make up the band, which is now headquartered in Manchester. The band's beginnings may be traced back to their time at Wilmslow High School and playing together as adolescents. Gigs arranged by a council worker led to the band signing with Dirty Hit and Polydor Records. Throughout 2012, the band opened for numerous prominent performers and released a series of extended plays (Facedown, Sex, Music for Cars, IV) before releasing their self-titled debut album (2013), which contained the successful songs Sex, Chocolate, and Robbers, which reached number one in the United Kingdom. Their second album, I Like It When You Sleep, For You Are So Beautiful Yet So Unaware of It (2016), debuted at number one in the United States and the United Kingdom. Following the record's tour cycle, the band announced their third album, tentatively titled Music for Cars, before going on sabbatical again in 2017. When the band returned in 2018, they revealed that the album had developed into their third campaign cycle, which included their third and fourth studio albums. The first, A Brief Inquiry into Online Relationships (2018), was met with critical acclaim and went on to become the band's third number one album in the United Kingdom. In the 2020 Grammys, their song Give Yourself A Try was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Rock Song.
