Tessa Virtue Biography

McCormick, Tessa Jane Virtue is a retired ice dancer from Canada. Virtue and her partner Scott Moir became the most decorated figure skaters in Olympic history in Pyeongchang 2018. They are the first figure skaters to win five career Olympic medals, having won gold in both the ice dance and team events. In 2016-17, Virtue and Moir had one of their finest seasons ever, skating unbeaten on their way to their third career world title. As part of their triumphant comeback after a two-year sabbatical from the competition, they won the ISU Grand Prix Final for the first time. After earning two silver medals in the ice dance event and as part of the inaugural Olympic team event in Sochi 2014, they took a hiatus to focus on tours and exhibits. With their passionate free skate to Mahler's Symphony No. 5, they became the youngest ice dance team to ever win Olympic gold at the age of 20 and 22. They won their first world title a month later. Virtue had a second operation to alleviate strain on her calves in the fall of 2010. They finished second behind Americans Meryl Davis and Charlie White in the 2011 World Championships in their only complete competition of the season. The two couples spent the following two seasons vying for the top of the podium, as they had done since placing 1-2 in Vancouver in 2010. Virtue and Moir won gold at the 2012 World Championships before finishing second in 2013. Virtue and Moir transferred their training base to Montreal in 2016 to be taught by Marie-France Dubreuil and Patrice Lauzon, two-time world silver medalists, as they aim to push themselves and their sport ahead both technically and aesthetically. Virtue and Moir were chosen as Team Canada's flag bearers for the PyeongChang 2018 Opening Ceremony. Hillberg & Berk and Virtue announced their cooperation in 2015. In October of that year, they debuted the Tessa Virtue jewelry collection, which she helped design. BonLook and Virtue announced an eyewear partnership in 2017. In January 2018, the BonLook X Tessa Virtue collection was released.
