Tess Gerritsen, a writer of the highest caliber in the world, chose an unusual path to a career in writing. Former Stanford student Gerritsen afterward attended the University of California, San Francisco, for clinical training, earning her M.D. She wrote fiction while on maternity leave from her job as a doctor. Her debut book was published in 1987.
Eight progressively emotional tension books followed Call After Midnight, a sentimental spine-chiller. She also wrote the script for the 1993 CBS Movie of the Week, Adrift, which starred Kate Jackson. Harvest, Gerritsen's debut hardback novel, was published in 1996 and marked her entry onto the New York Times Bestseller List.
