Teresa Tomlinson Biography

On November 30, 2010, Teresa Tomlinson, the current mayor of Columbus, Georgia, was elected with 68% of the vote to become the city's 69th mayor. She was officially sworn in as the first female chairman of the town on January 3, 2011. She was elected to a second term on May 20, 2014, with 63% of the vote, making her the first mayor since the city's incorporation in 1971 to do so in a contest. She has been included on Georgia Trend's list of the 100 Most Influential Georgians many times, and the Department of Defense has cleared her for national security secrets. In 1994, Mayor Teresa Tomlinson married Wade H. (Outing) Tomlinson, a Columbus native, and relocated from Atlanta to Columbus. She worked on challenging issues and served as the first female associate for a protracted period at Pope McGlamry Kilpatrick Morrison and Norwood LLC. She worked as the executive director of MidTown Inc., a non-profit organization dedicated to network rehabilitation, from 2006 until 2010. Tomlinson, a leader at city hall, graduated from Chamblee High School in Atlanta, Georgia, Sweet Briar College in Virginia, and Emory University School of Law in Atlanta in 1991.
