Tenley Albright Biography

Tenley Albright is an American physician and former figure skater. She won the 1956 Olympic gold medal, the 1952 Olympic silver medal, the World Championships in 1953 and 1955, the North American Championships in 1953 and 1955, and the 1952–1956 U.S. national championships. Albright is also a Harvard Medical School graduate. She was honored by the National Women's Hall of Fame in 2015. Albright, a product of Boston's The Winsor School, enrolled at Radcliffe College as a pre-med student in 1953 and planned to finish her degree after the 1956 Olympics. She graduated from Harvard Medical School in 1961, went on to become a surgeon, and worked for 23 years before returning to Harvard Medical School as a faculty member and lecturer. She was the chair of the National Library of Medicine's Board of Regents at the National Institutes of Health for a while. She has served as a director for both non-profits and for-profits, including The Whitehead Institute for Biomedical Research and the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, as well as for-profit companies including West Pharmaceutical Services, Inc. and State Street Bank and Trust Company. She is the Director of the MIT Collaborative Initiatives at the moment.
