Dutch-conceived Ted-Jan Bloemen relocated to the country of his father's birth in June 2014, and after accepting his new visa, he joined the Canadian national team for the 2014–15 season. The 2015 World Single Distances Championships saw Canada capture group interest silver thanks in large part to his nearly immediate impact. In 2015–16, he finished a lifetime year.
He smashed the 10000m world record that had stood since March 2007 in the subsequent World Cup of the time in Salt Lake City in November with his season's time of 12:36.30.
