After Izabela Dragneva of Bulgaria tested positive for a restricted drug and was found ineligible, Tara Nott-Cunningham was given the gold medal. Cunningham was also a two-time Pan American Games gold medallist and competed in the 2004 Olympic Games (1999, 2003).
Cunningham, a former gymnast, and All-American soccer player has won weightlifting gold at seven national championships, placed in the top ten at five world championships, and holds four US records (48 kg snatch, clean and jerk, total; 53 kg snatch).
