Tanuja Dehne Biography

Tanuja Dehne is a former C-level executive of NRG Energy, Inc., a Fortune 250 power business, and a public company director. She provides insight and expertise to the C-suite and boardroom from her multi-discipline responsibilities. She is a purpose-driven leader, talent grower, and seasoned strategist. She is an award-winning corporate lawyer, human resources expert, and community volunteer who thrives when she can make a difference in the lives of others. Dehne serves on the boards of directors of Granite Point Mortgage Trust Inc., where she chairs the Nominating and Corporate Governance Committee, and Advanced Disposal Services, where she chairs the Compensation Committee. Dehne also served on the Silver Bay Realty Trust Corp. Board of Directors from 2012 to 2017. She works as a Senior Advisor on corporate governance issues for The B Team, a non-profit organization dedicated to mobilizing global leaders to promote a better way of doing business for the well-being of people and the earth. She is an active member of her community, serving on the boards of many non-profit organizations, including the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation and as the Board Chair of Young Audiences New Jersey and Eastern Pennsylvania. She also serves on the board of the Philadelphia Forum of Executive Women. Dehne worked at NRG for 12 years in several jobs of increasing importance. She oversaw NRG's Human Resources (11,000+ employees), Information Technology, Communications, Sustainability, and Corporate Marketing departments, the company's charitable giving program, M&A integrations, and the construction of NRG's sustainable corporate headquarters in Princeton, N.J. as Executive Vice President, Chief Administrative Officer, and Chief of Staff. Dehne formerly managed NRG's Human Resources department, which was responsible for all HR operations such as talent management, organizational growth, benefits, compensation, labor and employee relations, payroll, and HR information systems. Dehne joined NRG in 2004 as Deputy General Counsel and Corporate Secretary in the Legal department, where she was in charge of corporate governance and transactions such as financings and mergers and acquisitions. She formerly worked at Saul Ewing's business department, where she handled corporate law. Dehne speaks often on issues such as leadership, corporate governance, climate change, and talent development. In 2017, she published an article on board culture and composition in The Legal Intelligencer titled “Creating Long-Term Value by Changing Supply and Demand,” and she most recently co-authored an article in The Review of Securities & Commodities Regulation titled “CEO Succession and Crisis Management.” Dehne was recently named one of the “2018 NACD Directorship 100” by NACD Directorship Magazine, which celebrates the most important executives in the boardroom, as well as a “2017 Director to Watch” by Directors & Boards. She is also a NACD Board Leadership Fellow and was highlighted in The Forum of Executive Women's 2017 Women in Leadership Report as "Women on the Move: Navigating to the Boardroom." The Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation also announced that Dehne would become the Dodge Foundation's fourth president and CEO, beginning September 2019. Dehne received her bachelor's degree from Lafayette College, her master's degree in political science from the University of Pennsylvania, and her Juris Doctor with honors from Syracuse University College of Law.
