Tami Hoag, a top-tier writer for the New York Times, began her writing career at nine with the independently released self-penned third-grade smash Black Pony. Hoag's passion for storytelling was kindled by a school assignment about two kids who shared a horse named Smoky.
This project also put her on a predetermined path that would lead to the 1988 publication of her debut book, The Trouble With J.J., by Bantam Books.
