In the premier series, Law and Order: Special Victims Unit from Wolf Films/Universal Media Studios, Tamara Tunie is in her eighth season as Medical Examiner Melinda Warner. Ms. Tunie has had several important positions on television, perhaps most notably as the enduring Jessica Griffin on the CBS Daytime Drama As The World Turns, for which she received two nominations for NAACP Image Awards and two grants from Soap Opera Digest. She also guest starred on Law and Order: Sex and the City, NYPD Blue and played the glaringly apparent role of Alberta Green in season one of the popular television show 24, where she worked on three different projects at once. Justin Kirk and Estella Warren star in Ms. Tunie's debut independent film, See You In September, which she produced and directed last summer. The movie, filmed in New York City, follows a woman who sets up a care team for abandoned patients when all of their doctors go on vacation in August. She also finds true love. The first Broadway production of Shakespeare's Julius Caesar in more than 50 years starred Ms. Tunie with Denzel Washington. She received rave reviews for her performance as Madame de Merteuil before the pack in Les Liaisons Dangereuses at the Shakespeare Theater of New Jersey. In August Wilson's Twentieth-Century Cycle at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC, she appeared in Fences. Ms. Tunie became a Broadway creator in the crew responsible for creating the Tony Award-winning musical Spring Awakening in 2006. She also developed Radio Golf, which won August Wilson the Tony Award. She appeared on stage with Lena Horne in the Broadway musical Lena Horne: The Lady and Her Music, and she also appeared with Brian Stokes Mitchell in David Merrick's revival of the song Oh Kay! Ms. Tunie traveled to Europe with Bubblin Brown Sugar and played Helen of Troy in the Central Park production of Troilus and Cressida by the New York Shakespeare Festival. Ms. Tunie also portrayed Maggie in Theater Virginia's production of Tennessee Williams' Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, which was primarily made up of African Americans. After September 11th, she co-starred in Dreamgirls' 20th-anniversary benefit play alongside several Broadway veterans, including Audra McDonald.
