Takeshi Kaneshiro is the son of a Japanese expert and a Taiwanese housewife. He has two older brothers, one of which is seven years his senior and the other only one. He enrolled at the English-based Taipei American School after leaving Taipei Japanese Junior High School, which enabled him to converse in English.
While he was focused there, he began starring in TV commercials and decided to drop out of school to pursue a career in singing and acting. To varying degrees, he is bilingual and conversant in Mandarin, Hokkien, Japanese, English, and Cantonese.
