GirlTrek, the largest general welfare nonprofit in the country for African-American women and young women, is co-driven by T Morgan Dixon. GirlTrek encourages women to use walking as a practical first step to arouse healthy families and networks and weaves neighborhood promotion together to drive social equality-driven wellbeing development that aims to remove barriers to physical activity, improve access to safe places to walk, secure and recover green spaces, and improve the walkability and constructed conditions of 50 significant need networks across the United States. Dixon was at the forefront of instructional transformation before GirlTrek. For one of the largest contract school networks in the country, Achievement First, she served as Director of Leadership Development. She also oversaw the opening of six publicly funded schools in New York City for St. Expectation and the Urban Assembly, two organizations supported by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. She has held the trustee position for the $50 million tourism and conservation enterprise in Maryland known as The Underground Railroad Historic Byway, Teach for Haiti, and The National Outdoor Leadership School. Dixon received support from Teach for America (2012), Echoing Green (2013), Ashoka (2014), and The Aspen Institute as the founder of GirlTrek (2015). She has received press attention from the New York Times and CNN, Essence Magazine designated her a saint of health, and she has been on the cover of Outside Magazine's recurring Icons issue.
