The honour and honour of serving the country's first African American president fell to Suzan Johnson Cook. From May 2011 until October 2013, Johnson Cook served as the President and Secretary of State's top worldwide religious freedom advisor after being named by President Barack Obama as the United States Ambassador at Large for International Religious Freedom.
She represented our country in more than 25 nations and over 100 diplomatic engagements as the first female and African American to hold this post. She also included religious freedom in our foreign policy and priorities for national security.
