Editor-in-Chief of National Geographic Magazine and Editorial Director of National Geographic Partners is Susan Goldberg. She is responsible for all adventure distribution, including electronic newscasting, periodicals, books, kids, families, travel, and experience. In April 2014, she was appointed Editor in Chief of the publication before being designated Editorial Director in October 2015. She is the magazine's eighth manager since it began being published in October 1888. Under Goldberg's leadership, National Geographic won three National Magazine Awards, was a nominee for the 2017 Pulitzer Prize for Explanatory Reporting and received the George Polk Award for Magazine Reporting. She received the Exceptional Woman in Publishing Award in 2015. Before joining National Geographic, Goldberg worked for Bloomberg News in Washington as the official editorial manager for bureaucratic local and state inclusion. Bloomberg hired her in 2010. She was named by Washingtonian magazine as one of Washington's top 11 media moguls in 2013.
