The longest-serving woman in NASA, Susan G. Finley, has worked at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) since January 1958. Finley began her employment with the research center as a human PC calculating rocket dispatch orders by hand two days before Explorer 1 was launched. She is now filling in for NASA's Deep Space Network as a systems engineer (DSN).
She has taken part in JPL's exploration of the Sun, Moon, planets, and other Solar System bodies. Finley spent a considerable amount of time attending Scripps College with the initial intent of becoming an engineer.
