The first American woman to win a biathlon world championship is Susan Dunklee. Dunklee was a two-time All-American in cross-country skiing before becoming a biathlete. When she was a student at Dartmouth College, she began her career as a biathlete.
Dunklee set a new World Championship record in the 2012 Biathlon World Championships in Ruhpolding by placing sixth in the individual competition. Dunklee competed at the 2017 Biathlon World Championships and the Winter Olympics in 2014. She won her first World Championship medal after placing second in the Mass Start in Hochfilzen at the 2017 Biathlon World Championships.
