The founding chair of Citizens United for Research in Epilepsy is Susan Axelrod (CURE). In 1998, Axelrod and two other mothers who were dissatisfied with their inability to protect their children from the devastation of wild seizures and the side effects of medications banded together to spearhead the search for a cure for epilepsy.
Under Susan's leadership, CURE successfully redefined the goals of epilepsy research by funding prizes for cutting-edge research, exploring new areas, and sponsoring milestone meetings. Susan and CURE received the prestigious 2008 Child Neurology Foundation Advocacy Award of Merit for their commitment to the welfare of epileptic patients.
