San Antonio, Texas, native Summer Glau, a classically trained ballet dancer, made her acting debut in 2002 with a guest appearance on Angel (playing a ballet dancer). Her career has primarily been built on strong women and hurt young women in science fiction and fantasy stories.
Executive Joss Whedon saw her work in Angel and eventually cast her as River Tam in his critically acclaimed but short-lived TV series Firefly, a role she recreated for the series' component film spinoff Serenity. Before meeting Joss Whedon, Glau just auditioned for the position of a Power Ranger in Power Rangers Wild Force.
