At the age of 14, Summer Bishil started acting classes. Within a year, she signed a contract with a manager and an organization. Bishil's first employment was on the short-lived Nickelodeon TV show Just for Kicks.
She then had cameos in a few more kid's shows before getting the main role in Alan Ball's 2006 movie Towelhead, which was adapted from the book of the same name. She was chosen to play Azula in the sequel to The Last Airbender by M. Night Shyamalan.
