Steven Rodney McQueen CBE is a screenwriter and director from the United Kingdom. He won an Academy Award for Best Picture, a BAFTA for Best Film, and a Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture " Drama as a maker for his 2013 film 12 Years a Slave, a true dramatization adaptation of an 1853 slave account journal.
He also received the New York Film Critics Circle's Best Director award. McQueen is the first dark producer to be nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture. McQueen's previous feature films include Hunger, a historical depiction of the 1981 Irish hunger strike.
