Mr. Steven J. Steve Israel was the former US Representative representing New York's third congressional district, serving in the US Congress from 2001 to 2017. Since redistricting in 2012, the region has included parts of northern Nassau and Suffolk counties on Long Island, as well as a small portion of Queens in New York City.
He is a Democrat who served as Chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee until November 2014. Israel announced on January 5, 2016, that he will not seek re-appointment in November 2016. Prior to his election to Congress, he served on the Huntington, New York, town board. In 2017, he joined CNN as a political pundit.
