In 1984, Steve Hindy completed a five-and-a-half-year assignment as the Associated Press' Middle East Correspondent, covering battles and tragedies in Iran. Iraq Lebanon Syria, Egypt, and Sudan are all on the list. His inn was damaged by a mortar barrage on his last night in Beirut.
Steve received a heated piece of shrapnel as a memento, gathered his family, and returned to New York City. During his time in the Middle East, Steve met diplomats in Saudi Arabia, where Islamic law prohibits the use of mixed beverages.
