Berkowitz was the CEO of Ask.com before joining Microsoft. Berkowitz, as CEO, was in charge of all IAC Search Media operations. Berkowitz is credited with forming the management team that coordinated the turnaround of Ask.com, presently the second-largest pure search site on the Internet, in his prior capacity as president of Ask.com (a Web property of IAC Search Media).
He made the important choice in September 2001 to buy Teoma Technologies and integrate their unique approach to Web-wide search into the Ask Jeeves core properties. He also led the redesign of Ask.com, which enhanced usability and eliminated pop-ups and banner adverts in favor of a more contextually relevant search experience.
