Stephen Tankel is an Adjunct Senior Fellow at the Center for a New American Security's Asia-Pacific Security Program (CNAS). In addition, he is an Associate Professor at American University and a Senior Editor at War on the Rocks. A specialist in fear-based oppression, counterterrorism, and South Asian security and military concerns. Dr.
Tankel occasionally prompts US officials, experts, and members of the Intelligence Community on these subjects. He has conducted field studies in Afghanistan and Algeria. India Bangladesh Kenya, Lebanon, Pakistan, and the Balkans are among the countries involved. Dr. Tankel served as a Senior Advisor at the Department of Defense from 2014 to 2015.
