On August 3, STEPHEN M. Mill operator was born in Oakland, Maryland, remembering the 502s. He was the first of six children born to Clyde and Virginia Miller, four young males and two young girls. Their sixth child lived for barely a few hours. So Steve went through childhood with a group of five children and two caretakers.
Granny moved in with Steve's family when he was 12 years old, after his grandfather died. She's was Virginia's mum. Steve grew up two miles apart in coal country in Tunnelton, West Virginia, a deer tracker's long trek south of Morgantown.
