Stephanie Murphy is a Vietnamese-born American politician, businesswoman, and former national security analyst. A Democrat, she served as U.S. Representative for Florida's 7th congressional district from 2017 to 2023, defeating 12-term Republican incumbent John Mica in 2016. She became the first Vietnamese-American woman elected to Congress and the first Vietnamese-American Democrat.
A moderate and bipartisan leader, she co-chaired the Blue Dog Coalition, served on Ways and Means, Armed Services, and the January 6 Select Committee. Earlier, she was a DoD national security specialist (2004–2008), a Deloitte consultant, and a Rollins College instructor. She holds a BA in economics from William & Mary and an MS in foreign service from Georgetown.
