Stanley Crouch has played a variety of roles, including musician, jazz critic, social commentator, poet, writer, and novelist. Crouch's first book was a collection of poems titled Ain't No Ambulances for No Nigguhs Tonight. Following the 1972 book, Crouch expanded his technique beyond poetry and music, tackling a wide range of issues in a daring manner.
