Stacy Compton, a native of Hurt, Virginia, established a solid foundation in the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series, winning 36 races and earning 39 poles in seven years of Late Model Stock Car competition. In his nine years in karting, he also achieved over 100 victories and ten titles.
Compton moved from an obscure short-tracker to a viable championship challenger and the circuit's best qualifier in two full seasons in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. He did make a surprise Winston Cup debut by qualifying tenth at Martinsville Speedway in 1996.
