Somi, an accomplished East African performer and composer, relocated from New York City to Lagos, Nigeria, in late 2011 in quest of new inspiration. The result is a new album titled The Lagos Music Salon, which was released in August 2014 as her big label debut on Sony Music/Okeh and debuted at number one on the US Jazz charts.
The album, which includes special guests Angelique Kidjo, Common, and Ambrose Akinmusire, draws inspiration and material from the tropical city's boastful cosmopolitanism, urgent inspiration, and giant spirit, straddling the worlds of African jazz soul and pop with a newfound ease and a voice that Vogue Magazine simply calls Superb!
