Skylar Spence, formerly known as Saint Pepsi, is the electronic music project of Ryan DeRobertis, an American musician, producer, and performer. Ryan was raised in Farmingville, New York. Before embarking on his musical career, he studied music at Boston College for two years. The project began in December 2012, and he released his most highly lauded album Hit Vibes in May 2013 as Saint Pepsi. DeRobertis has been dubbed "future funk." Though the project transcends lines between traditional music genres, it may be described as vaporwave disco pop future pop liquid disco slow jam and gibber boogie. He immediately established a distinct production style and made huge ripples in underground music circles with his Hit Vibes album in May 2013, as well as his widely shared remixes of improbable mainstream smashes like Carly Rae Jepsen's Call Me Maybe. In early 2014, a flood of internet music emerged, including standout hit Mr. Wonderful. Carpark Records took notice of the excitement and signed Saint Pepsi that year, with plans for future album releases and live engagements. In order to avoid trademark litigation with the cola company, DeRobertis announced in early 2015 that he would continue to perform under the name Skylar Spence, the title of an early Saint Pepsi song named after Drew Barrymore's character in the 1996 Woody Allen musical film Everyone Says I Love You. The first Skylar Spence LP Prom King appeared later in 2015, preceded by the new wavy dance-pop hit Can't You See.
